Now, I've gotten some hate mail for this, so with this page don't get me wrong... I LOVE Fushigi Yuugi, it's one of my favorite series. I also like Sailor Moon a lot, when it's not the slaughtered American version. They're both great shows, and along with Oh, My Goddess! and The Vision of Escaflowne are on my list of top 10 favorite anime shows. It's just that there are things about Usagi and Miaka that make them less than wonderful characters. I think they're great, and they're very human characters and lovable, I just happen to think that Belldandy and Hitomi are better. Here's my little list of reasons, in no particular order. 1. Belldandy and Hitomi aren't crybabies like Usagi and Miaka, and yet they go through just as many bad times.
2. Belldandy would rather cook a good meal and Hitomi's an athlete and eats healthy, Usagi and Miaka would rather scarf everything up in sight.
3. Belldandy's a goddess. 'Nuff said. Hitomi becomes a goddess at the end of the Escaflowne movie. Again, 'nuff said.
4. Hitomi and Belldandy don't need to use a magic wand or do a ritual to summon a god for help like Usagi and Miaka. They use their powers naturally.
5. Hitomi and Belldandy don't need helpers to kick butt. Miaka has 7 helpers and Usagi needs 9.
6. Hitomi will ride on the unprotected shoulder of her love's mech into battle to help him, and Belldandy will fight her own SISTER to protect her man. I'd like to see Miaka or Usagi do either of those.
7. Belldandy rides in the motor club, and Hitomi's on the track team doing tarot readings on the side. Do Usagi or Miaka have ANY hobbies at all?
8. Belldandy's dedicated to her Keiichi, and Hitomi may be a little indesisive before she settles on Van, but they are faithful and aren't nearly the man-magnets that Usagi and Miaka are. They either attract or swoon over almost every man they meet.
9. Belldandy and Hitomi don't make long speeches before doing something important or attacking. They just do what needs to be done.
10. Hitomi and Belldandy already understand responsibility. Miaka and Usagi have to get mature the hard way.
11. Hitomi and Belldandy don't abuse their men the way Miaka does Tamahome. That girl gets pretty violent when she's angry.
12. Hitomi and Belldandy don't need someone to tell them when to attack the way Usagi does. Someone almost always has to tell her "Now, Sailor Moon!" before Usagi attacks.
