Synopsis
Douglas Brightglade left his home village to seek a job and his fortune. He meets an aged Pyromancer and decides to become his apprentice. This series follows Douglas's apprenticeship, through his meeting with Myrn Manstar and her apprenticeship to an Aquamancer. They fall in love and become engaged through the course of their adventures. The last book follows the adventures of Douglas's familiar, Marbleheart the otter.
Why I Love This Series
This series is a lot of fun. The story is very addictive, and there's plenty of action and romance, my two staples for a book. It's fun to watch their tutoring, and Callander has a very easygoing, casual style that fit's Douglas's attitude well. This is one heck of an apprenticeship, and Douglas becomes the first person to become a master magus in a long time. Marbleheart's endearing and lovable, and the irony of a Pyromancer with a water-dwelling familiar is a hoot. This is a quick read and a lot of fun. A good and easy fantasy series to follow. One more series you really must pick up and try.
