The Silver Metal Lover Duo
By Tanith Lee
Synopsis
Jane is a spoiled rich girl, who has everything she wants but real love. Her mother Demeta's gone all the time and gives her very little attention, and her friends are superficial and couldn't love a pet, much less a friend. Enter Silver, who's all Jane could ever want. He's sweet and kind, with the voice and musical talents of a god, flaming red hair, silver skin, and he's a robot. Jane falls in love with Silver at first site and quickly becomes obsessed. She manages to buy him from her friend, Egyptia, and then gives up her life of wealth to live in the slums with her metal love and find out what real happiness is all about. But, what's a girl to do when the model of lover she's bought gets suddenly recalled by the company?
Loren's a streetwise orphan who's made her way alone her whole life, and secretly kept a clandestinely published copy of Jane's Book. Then she meets Silver, now named Verlis, as the company didn't completely destroy him, but rebuilt and upgraded him to head a line of all new android performers/sex toys. Repulsed at first by the idea of loving a robot, Loren falls for Verlis anyway, and decides to help free him from the company that rebuilt him.
Why I Love These Books
The books, as it's title indicates, are pure romance, along with food for deep thought about what it means to truly live and be human. Lee's writing is very poetic, and lyrical to read. Even if you're not rich or spoiled like Jane, or streetwise like Loren, Tanith Lee manages to make them very lovable characters easy to empahtize with. And Silver is just plain hot stuff. As you can tell by now, I'm a big romantic and so this book was right up my alley. This book I would not reccommend either book for those under 16. It's absolutely not for children, but if you're an adult, by all means check them out. They're great celebrations of humanity and life.
